We received an unprecedented number of submissions and want to ensure that your artwork can be showcased in our community of artists and we are grateful to receive & review such a wide array of inspiring work created throughout the Western NY, Central NY, and Finger Lakes regions.
Lake Affect Magazine wanted to create a special space for the artists that we cannot publish in our upcoming issue, so we created an online gallery to showcase their work to our entire readership and viewership. This is an opportunity for exposure that we hope will also facilitate collaboration and community among artists.
Marika Chew
Marika Chew is a watercolor artist whose work features intricately patterned animals and cheerful collections. Marika grew up in Ithaca, NY and returned to the region after graduating from the Maryland Institute College of Art with a B.F.A in Illustration.
So far she has painted birds, insects, mammals, fish and even mythological creatures! She also works with plant and food illustration, including an on going New York State Series. Her paintings are inspired by world textiles, folk art, Art Nouveau and floral motifs. Her watercolors are the result of many layers of paint using a number of very tiny brushes. She sells greeting cards, signed prints and original paintings in regional craft shows, shops, as well as online(Etsy shop: MarikaChew.)
