We want to Thank all of the participating artists again for your submissions to Lake Affect Magazine!

We received an unprecedented number of submissions and want to ensure that your artwork can be showcased in our community of artists and we are grateful to receive & review such a wide array of inspiring work created throughout the Western NY, Central NY, and Finger Lakes regions.

Lake Affect Magazine wanted to create a special space for the artists that we cannot publish in our upcoming issue, so we created an online gallery to showcase their work to our entire readership and viewership. This is an opportunity for exposure that we hope will also facilitate collaboration and community among artists.

Maureen Church

About the Artist ….

Maureen Church is an accomplished artist who finds inspiration in the beauty of nature. She is a versatile painter, equally adept at capturing the spontaneity of outdoor painting as she is at creating dramatic landscapes and animal portraits in her studio using warm, molten encaustic wax.

Growing up in an artist’s household in Rochester NY, Maureen was inspired and encouraged by her mother, a fashion illustrator. She went on to earn a BFA at Alfred University and a Masters in Art Education at Nazareth College, and enjoyed a successful three-decade career teaching art until she retired in 2017.

Since retiring from teaching, Maureen has devoted herself full-time to her art, working out of her studio at the Hungerford Building in downtown Rochester. As a signature artist in the Genesee Valley Plein Air Painter’s group, she shares her joy for plein air painting in local shows and competitions. Her passion is evident in her small, vibrant paintings, which often serve as references for her larger canvases.

Maureen’s work has been exhibited in numerous galleries and has won several awards, including Best of Show at The Dove Block Project in Geneva, NY. This prestigious award has earned her the opportunity to showcase her work in a solo exhibition at the arts center in 2024. Her paintings can be found in private collections throughout the United States, as well as in public collections at Pittsford Fine Art, the Santa Fe Encaustic Museum, and at her own studio in Rochester, NY.

Through her art, Maureen hopes to inspire others to appreciate the natural world and find beauty in the simplicity of everyday life. With her upcoming solo exhibition at the Dove Block Project in 2024 and her work on permanent display at Pittsford Fine Art, Maureen is excited to share her vision and spirit for painting with a wider audience. She looks forward to continuing to create beautiful and meaningful works of art for years to come.
